Pope Francis made a comment when Donald Trump revealed his plans to build a wall at the Mexico border. The Pope said: “A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian.” The pope had however insisted that he did not mean to sway Americans with his comments. “As far as what you said about whether I would advise to vote or not to vote, I am not going to get involved in that,” he said.
“I say only that this man is not Christian if he has said things like that. We must see if he said things in that way and in this I give the benefit of the doubt.”
In response to this Trump called the Pope “disgraceful” as he said it is disgraceful for a religious leader to question another person’s faith. “For a religious leader to question a person’s faith is disgraceful.”
“No leader, especially a religious leader, has the right to question another man’s religion or faith’’
Trump also said the Pope will have regrets about not supporting his presidency. He said when Isis eventually attacks Rome, which in actual fact is their ultimate goal, the Pope will wish that he had been elected as president. Trump said, “the pope can have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been president because this would not have happened.
Still on the issue, some individuals took Trump’s side as they said they thought the Pope was a better person than that. While some individuals said Trump had misinterpreted what the Pope had said.
About the Mexican government, Trump said, “The Mexican government has made many disparaging remarks about me to the pope because they want to continuing ripping us off.”
