Revitalised Chelsea wing-back Victor Moses has revealed his frustration at playing under Jose Mourinho during the Portuguese’s second spell at Stamford Bridge, claiming: “He never spoke to me”.

Moses is currently enjoying something of a revival under new boss Antonio Conte, having played in seven of the club’s opening eight Premier League games this season and netting twice in the process.

The Italian has been impressed with the Nigeria international’s commitment and work-rate, something Mourinho failed to notice when he was brought back in 2013. Over three seasons, Moses was loaned out to Liverpool, Stoke and then West Ham under the Portuguese.

In an interview with ESPN, Moses spoke of the difference between working under Mourinho and Conte: “He never spoke to me. I thought in my head, ‘He’s got his own players already’.

“When the new manager came in, I just wanted to see how it went. It’s a blessing for me that he enjoys the way I play and appreciates the effort I put in. It gives you a lot of confidence when the manager believes in you.”

The formation we’re playing really suits the way I play, and the other players as well. We’re very intense, we want to shut down our opponents and get the ball forward on counter-attacks.”
