Eric Dier believes that his team-mate Harry Kane deserved to be on the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or as he finished top scorer in the Premier League and had a “fantastic season”.
Kane finished the top goalscorer in the Premier League with 25 goals last season, but this wasn’t enough to earn him a place on the shortlist for the Ballon d’Or.
In addition to Kane’s absence, Premier League stars such as Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez, Pul Pogbaa, Zlatan Ibrahimovic Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne, Dimitri Payet and fellow Spurs player Hugo Lloris were all included on the shortlist.
“Leicester won the Premier League but that doesn’t mean to say Harry should miss out. He had a fantastic season,” the England international told the ‘London Evening Standard’.
“To be top scorer in the league after the slow start he had was a brilliant achievement. He could have been on that list, though I am sure he is not too bothered about it.
“We have many players who can be on it in the future, though, if they want to. It is a matter of working hard and trying to improve”.
