Everton boss Ronald Koeman has stated that he would welcome Manchester United attacker Wayne Rooney back to Goodison Park with open arms, when asked about the topic.

The England international star has had a subdued start to the new season and has been dropped by club and country over the last month.

Talk in the press has stated that Rooney could well leave Old Trafford and look for regular first-team football elsewhere either in January or next summer.

Rooney came through the ranks at Everton and was a sensation at the Toffees before being picked off by the Red Devils.

When quizzed whether he would want the former Merseyside star back at Goodison, Koeman was full of praise for the maligned United man.

First of all, I think it is a great player and he has still not finished his career, The Guardian quote the Dutchman as saying.

I do not know how his situation is and I need to respect that situation. Tha tIs not my problem. But even when we get one time the possibility that Rooney is an option for Everton, Im very pleased.

Rooney is nursing a muscular injury and as such is a doubt for Saturdays Premier League clash with Burnley at Old Trafford.

The star man has been linked with big-money moves to the likes of the MLS and China in recent times.
